Media Matter's War on FOX
^.^
Here's a new strategy that Media Matters unveiled recently:

This is a case where Media Matters can dish it out, but they can't take it. They can't stand that anyone would have a point of view that is different from theirs. I like this take on the situation ...

I don't have a problem with Media Matters being a media watchdog, monitoring conservative talk shows and such for factuality, even though doing so is horribly one-sided ... but then again, this is balanced by the conservatives who monitor the mainstream "drive-by" media and their ilk. Of course, you also then get the followers who flock to Liberalista or conservative websites because these sites echo their views ... again, I have no problem ... these websites are a part of the game of political discussion.
David Brock, the head of Media Matters, is taking his anti-FOX jihad to a new and dangerous level, however. He's apparently now out to damage and sabotage FOX. This goes beyond simply opposing an organization because of its point of view, and gets into silencing someone because you don't belive in or agree with that point of view. This is a direct assault on the freedom of speech, and is therefore a danger to all of us.
Media Matters is asking the federal government to change their status from a 501-C not-for-profit, which does not allow them to engage in political-based activities, to a different designation, which will allow them to engage in political activities, which I assume they believe their not-so secret war on FOX will be. I assume the feds will have some questions about all of this, but given that the government agrees with Media Matters' point of view, I suspect their request will be approved.
Media Matters is not stopping at simply opposing FOX News in the media world. Brock states in the Politico article that Media Matters is hiring lawyers that have been successful against FOX, and reporters to compile secret files on top officials at FOX. They are also planning to open operations in Great Britain, in order to oppose FOX gaining a majority share in Sky News. Opposing other peoples' opinions is one thing ... trying to bring down someone's company is another. In the end, David Brock and Media Matters will fail, and FOX News will actually *gain* viewers and popularity. The very fact that this is public, and the news has gotten out to the FOX faithful will ensure this.
The idea that the Lefty Liberalistas figure that this is a sound strategy and a good move is frightening in and of itself.

"If Fox News didn't just make s**t up and incorrectly report the news, I would be upset about this. However, I will go with the Machiavellian view on this and say the ends justify the means."
My Rsponse:
What goes around may come around. Media Matters will not be able to take down FOX News or Newscorp, therefore what are they really trying to do? Conservatives don't attempt to take down Liberalista media outlets because they don't believe in their points of view ... they tend to fall over themselves. I find it interesting that David Brock and Media Matters feels that the answer is to attack FOX News rather than putting that money into a liberal news outlet.
